From Burnout to Spiritual Awakening with Nicole Miranda (Part 2)

Meet your Host

I’m Beth Schild—a Keynote Speaker, Somatic Facilitator, and a survivor of the “perfect life.”

For years, I checked every box: the marriage, the church, the obedience. But inside, I was spiritually dead. It took tearing it all down—a 3.5-year divorce and leaving a high-control religion—to find my own voice.

Now, I bring that truth to every room I enter. Whether I’m teaching a Major League Baseball player how to breathe under pressure or helping a woman navigate a faith crisis, my work is about one thing:

Helping you feel safe enough to be real.

There comes a point in many healing journeys where changing your circumstances is no longer enough.

You can move to a new city. Leave the job that’s draining you. Build healthier habits. Surround yourself with supportive people.

And yet, old patterns can still follow you.

In Part 2 of The Shift with Beth Podcast, Beth continues her heartfelt conversation with Nicole Miranda as they explore what happened after Nicole left her corporate career behind and moved to Hawaii. While her surroundings had completely changed, the deeper work of healing was only beginning.

Their conversation offers a powerful reminder that true transformation isn’t about escaping your old life. It’s about gently uncovering the beliefs, patterns, and wounds that have been quietly shaping your life all along.

Healing Begins With One Courageous Decision

After years of living in chronic stress, Nicole made one life-changing decision: she moved to Hawaii.

The change immediately brought her a sense of peace she had never experienced before. She felt more connected to nature, surrounded by people who valued presence over productivity, and inspired to create a completely different lifestyle.

One of her first decisions was to stop drinking alcohol.

Not because someone told her to.

Not because she felt pressured.

But because she realized she wanted to build her new life intentionally.

Sobriety became more than giving something up—it became part of creating a new identity rooted in health, clarity, and authenticity.

It’s a beautiful reminder that healing often begins with small but meaningful choices that align with who we’re becoming.

Changing Your Environment Doesn’t Instantly Change Your Patterns

Although Hawaii brought peace into Nicole’s life, she quickly realized that simply changing locations didn’t erase the habits she’d carried for years.

She still struggled with overworking.

She still relied on prescription medication.

She still filled every moment with activity.

Even after leaving a demanding career, she found herself constantly planning hikes, adventures, social gatherings, and activities.

Beth gently points out something many of us experience:

We often believe the external situation is the problem.

Sometimes it is.

But healing also asks us to look inward.

Nicole realized she wasn’t only addicted to achievement—she had also become uncomfortable with stillness itself.

That awareness became one of the biggest turning points in her journey.

Learning to Slow Down

Eventually, Nicole traveled to Bali to complete her yoga teacher training.

At first, it wasn’t the peaceful retreat she imagined.

She struggled with discomfort.

She questioned why she had come.

Meditation felt almost unbearable.

Sitting quietly with her own thoughts brought emotions to the surface that she’d spent years avoiding.

For someone who had lived her entire life in motion, slowing down felt unfamiliar—and even frightening.

But sometimes the greatest breakthroughs happen when we stay with the discomfort instead of running from it.

Yoga became much more than learning physical postures.

It introduced Nicole to mindfulness, meditation, self-awareness, compassion, and an entirely different way of experiencing life.

The Power of Self-Forgiveness

One of the most meaningful moments in the episode comes when Nicole reflects on learning to forgive herself.

For years, she had blamed herself for not doing enough.

Not achieving enough.

Not becoming enough.

Through yoga and deeper inner work, she realized she had spent much of her life treating herself with criticism instead of compassion.

Self-forgiveness became an essential part of her healing.

As Beth shares during their conversation, many of us are taught about forgiving others.

Far fewer of us learn how to extend that same grace toward ourselves.

Healing often begins when we stop fighting who we’ve been and start appreciating everything that version of ourselves did simply to survive.

Sometimes Healing Isn’t Linear

Even after moving to Hawaii, becoming sober, and completing yoga teacher training, Nicole found herself facing another dark night of the soul.

This time, it felt even more confusing.

She had changed so much externally.

Why was she still struggling internally?

It’s a question many people ask during healing.

Progress rarely follows a straight line.

Sometimes growth happens layer by layer.

Each season reveals another belief to release, another fear to face, another opportunity to choose ourselves differently.

Rather than seeing this experience as failure, Nicole eventually recognized it as another invitation to go deeper.

Listening to the Whispers Before They Become Shouts

One of the most powerful insights Nicole shares is that life often speaks to us quietly before it forces us to listen.

The universe whispers.

Our bodies whisper.

Our intuition whispers.

When we ignore those whispers long enough, the message often becomes louder.

For Nicole, years of burnout, insomnia, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion were invitations to slow down.

Only after finally listening did she begin to experience lasting change.

This perspective shifts burnout from something to fear into something we can become curious about.

Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?”

We can begin asking,

“What is my body trying to tell me?”

Choosing Flow Over Control

Another beautiful theme throughout this episode is learning to release certainty.

For years, Nicole believed she needed to have every step of her future planned.

Career.

Relationships.

Success.

Everything needed a roadmap.

Her spiritual awakening invited her into something completely different.

Trust.

Presence.

Flow.

Instead of controlling every outcome, she began allowing herself to respond to what felt aligned in each season.

That shift transformed not only how she worked, but how she lived.

It’s a powerful reminder that peace often grows when we loosen our grip on certainty and strengthen our trust in ourselves.

Transformation Is Always Possible

Nicole’s story is ultimately one of hope.

Just a year before becoming Miss Hawaiʻi, she found herself navigating one of the darkest periods of her life.

Today, she leads retreats, inspires others, and lives with a sense of peace she once believed was impossible.

Her journey reminds us that healing doesn’t erase our past.

It helps us understand it.

It teaches us compassion.

It reconnects us with ourselves.

And most importantly, it shows us that no matter how long we’ve been living in survival mode, another way is possible.

If you’ve been walking through your own season of burnout, uncertainty, or transformation, let Nicole’s story encourage you.

Healing rarely happens overnight.

But every moment you choose presence over pressure, compassion over criticism, and alignment over performance is a step toward becoming the person you were always meant to be.
